Freezer-Ready Spout Pouch Project for Frozen Beverages

A technical packaging project exploring freezer durability, a reclosable spout, controlled tear access, and artwork planning for a frozen beverage pouch.

Project brief

A food brand was developing a pouch for a frozen milkshake or soft-serve style product. The pack needed to remain durable under frozen conditions while supporting more than one consumption method after the product softened.

Project challenge

A standard liquid pouch opening would not fully support the intended experience. The customer wanted both controlled pouring or sipping and a wider opening for spoon access. These features had to be positioned without weakening the spout weld or the main sealing areas.

Packaging approach

  • Freezer-suitable laminated pouch structure with nylon for added durability
  • Reclosable spout and cap
  • Separate controlled tear-open feature
  • Tear line planned away from the spout weld and primary seals
  • Artwork and nutrition-panel updates incorporated into the proofing workflow

Validation points

The structure still requires confirmation with the filler, frozen-product handling process, distribution conditions, and final production testing. The opening features must be evaluated together with pouch dimensions, headspace, seal integrity, and consumer use.

Outcome

The dual-access user experience and freezer-oriented material direction were documented for the updated dieline and artwork process. The project demonstrates how the product state and consumption method can change the pouch specification.
